Obituary of Stephen Paul Krupp

Stephen Paul Krupp, son of Paul A.  and Dorothy L. (nee Thompson) Krupp, passed away on January 14, 2023 at his home on the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Steve was born on September 30, 1959 in Belleville Illinois.  He attended Cathedral Grade School followed by Belleville West High School. In addition to participating in Honor Society and intramural sports, Steve was the Drum Major for the Marching Maroons and played trombone in the Stage Band.  He was a valedictorian of the class of 1977.

Steve attended Washington University in St. Louis, where he pitched for the WashU Bears baseball team and joined Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.  He graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. Steve joined The Dow Chemical Company in Freeport Texas, initially as an engineer in Research and Development.  Katherine A. Fleure married Stephen in 1982 in Belleville. Their son, August Charles Krupp, was born on April 5, 1994 in Lansing Michigan.

Following assignments in Technical Service and Development in the Dow Plastics business, Steve became a registered US Patent Agent in 1990.  He attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School (Lansing Michigan) where he participated in Law Review. Steve graduated Cum Laude with a Juris Doctor degree in 1995. He was admitted to the Bar in the state of Texas in 1996 and became a registered US Patent Attorney in 1997.

Steve retired from a highly successful career as a Patent Attorney for Dow in 2010. Subsequently, he joined Molecular Rebar Design (Austin Texas) as Chief Patent Counsel, a position he held until his death. Steve built a beautiful home overlooking the Grand Glaize Arm of the Lake of the Ozarks,near the location where he vacationed with his family while growing up. He relocated to his legacy home in early 2015. He became a member of The Missouri Bar in 2016.

Steve had a passion for baseball. He played summer ball through high school, followed by NCAA Division III college baseball.  While coaching several of his son’s Little League teams in Lake Jackson Texas, he built a batting cage in the backyard. Steve was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, watching Molina, Pujols, and Wainwright play at Busch Stadium during their final season.

Steve enjoyed traveling, especially to locations in the Caribbean to scuba dive, including St. Lucia, Curacao, and Cozumel. Later, he vacationed annually on his favorite island, Grand Cayman, in the British West Indies.

Steve channeled his energy into the development of a 100+ acre tract of land named Cardinal Crossing. The project included a furnished cabin, a large shed, and mowed trails, nestled in the natural beauty of the Ozark hills.  Pollinator habitat restoration using Missouri native trees and shrubs is a priority, in addition to maintaining a small orchard, a large garden and an apiary.

Steve loved the family pets, both the dogs and the cats. Kato, his beloved German Shepard, will be overjoyed to reunite with Steve in heaven. His five Bush Family cats miss him dearly.

Steve is survived by his wife Kathy and his son Augie. Following cremation, Steve’s ashes will be buried at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery in Belleville IL, where the graves of many of his extended family members are located. In celebration of Steve’s generous spirit, memorial contributions may be made to B.I.G. Love Cancer Care ( or your local animal shelter.
